We found it sturdy enough to handle all types of camcorders, especially the larger HDV breed. Although the HDV boasts a pound weight limit, we feel that it performs best with a four- to seven-pound camcorder. The crutch is made of two tubes for the upper section and one larger tube for the lower section. This is an optimal setup for heavier HDV camcorders, because it adds stability.
Each leg features a quick release that is easily reached by the camera operator, allowing the user to adjust the angle on the fly. We really liked how high up we can shoot with this model. And the spreaders do their job no matter the setup. A drawback is that the spreaders sometimes get in the way when you fold up the legs to move locations.

The head also features a rather long, sliding base plate to help with balancing your setup. The switchable counterbalance, which lets you move the balance point forward or back with the flip of switch, is a pretty slick setup.
Smaller setups, say a DSLR with a 50mm lens, will seem like nothing is on the head. The drag controls for pans and tilts are easy to adjust on the fly and lock down tight when needed. Thanks for your continued support.
I have the Manfroto HDV — build quality is great with one big exception. The mounting plate has two rubber strips that are recessed into the plate — unfortunately the rubber stripes do not stick to the mounting plate — surely Manfroto should fix this issue.
